Fast Electric Racing is fast and furious with lap times as low as 11 seconds. Modern batteries and motors give a performance that cannot be matched by IC powered boats. Which is why an electrically powered boat has held the world speed record for an R/C model boat for a number of years. We race a number of different classes covering submerged drive, surface drive and hydroplanes. The Fast Electric Section currently holds two events a year, the National Championships and the SAWS (Speed Records) event. Entrants to these two events must be MPBA members to be awarded MPBA trophies. Overseas visitors are welcome but cannot take the main trophies. The section sets the class rules for those classes which are not run by Naviga, and uses the Naviga rules for those Naviga classes that are run at the Nationals. The Nationals are also used as the qualifying event for inclusion in the MPBA team entered for the Naviga World Championships. The SAWS classes are run to FES rules. The Fast Electric Section has its own web site from which more information can be obtained, http://www.mpba-fes.org.uk Other racing for MPBA/Naviga classes of Fast Electric Boats is run by either Northern Amp DraggerS in the North of the country and Electra in the South.
NADS run 7 races over the year from March to September. These are held in either Bridlington on the East Coast or Bury in Greater Manchester. Details of the classes and further information about NADS can be found on their web site http://www.ampdraggers.co.uk
Electra races fast electric model power boats on lakes throughout the South East. At each regatta, in the Summer racing season, class winners are awarded trophies and all competitors earn points towards the annual drivers championship. Their classes and further details about their activities can be found on their web site http://www.electrafying.com
Note: The MPBA Fast Electric Section does not include Club 500 or GT400 races in it events. These are run at Club level and are a great introduction to Fast Electric racing.
